Sony Ericsson TM717

Sony Ericsson TM717 spotted on FCC in T-Mobile’s colors

T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) USA will be adding a new Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) device in its portfolio in the near future. Or at least it seems that the Swedish-Japanese handset maker hopes so, as I don’t see any other reason to go through the FCC approval hassle for the device that sings along T-Mobile’s AWS 3G — not that they could sell that on many other places in the world.
Anyway, from what we’re hearing, the TM717 is pretty similar (same?) to the Maria Sharapova-approved T707 model sporting the same 3.2 megapixel camera and clamshell form factor. Release date is unknown at this stage and the same goes for pricing…

toshiba-tg01-mobile

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been dying to see the Toshiba TG01 in real-world action ever since Tosh announced the Snapdragon-powered smartphone earlier this month. With an unbelievably fast 1Ghz processor and all kinds of multimedia processing hardware packed into its Snapdragon silicon, the Toshiba (OTCPK: TOSBF) TG01 is easily one of the baddest smartphone to be announced in recent memory. The 4.1-inch WVGA touchscreen, GPS, WiFi, 3G data connectivity, and microSD card slot sound good on paper, but they really don’t do the handset justice.
So, to help give you an idea for just how slim, beautiful, and powerful the Toshiba TG01 really is, we decided to put Toshiba’s booth reps to work in helping to demonstrate this uber-smartphone’s strengths. The Toshiba TG01 isn’t just slim and sexy, its build quality is light-years beyond Toshiba’s previous smartphone offerings. Edges are rounded and the clean, minimalist design underscores the TG01’s elegant and practical industrial design. There’s just something about a dense and solid feeling device that really makes for a positive user experience, and the TG01 redefines what it means to be a “sexy” smartphone - notice the iPhone 3G looking a little insecure next to the not-as-homely TG01.

Toshiba TG01 to Germany

O2 bringing white Toshiba TG01 to Germany for the summer!

O2 (NYSE: TEF) Germany is all proud to announce that they will be the first mobile operator to carry Toshiba (OTCPK: TOSBF)’s uber-cool, super-powerful TG01 Windows Mobile smartphone. The Snapdragon CPU-powered handset will hit O2’s offering in Germany “from summer this year,” meaning there are still few months to wait for this super thin beauty. Price wasn’t announced, but I doubt you’ll be able to grab the single most powerful smartphone for free on a contract. Quite the contrary, even with some decent contract I would expect it to go for few hundred Euros, though it’s pure speculation at this stage.
Once again let’s recap the TG01’s specs: aside from sporting Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, there’s also HSPA support on board, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 4.1-inch WVGA (480×800 pixels) touchscreen, 256MB of RAM coupled with 512MB of ROM, as well as a microSD memory card slot

Windows Mobile flip-phone

The “how’s” and “why’s” of this latest leak aren’t exactly clear, but it seems that Toshiba (OTCPK: TOSBF) might be working on a Windows Mobile flip-phone running on the Qualcommchipset Snapdragon mobile that makes the Toshiba TG01 such an incredible device.
Toshiba’s apparent FCC filing for the Toshiba TG01 is at once incredibly confusing and irresistibly intriguing. Toshiba has apparently filed for FCC approval of the upcoming Toshiba TG01, which isn’t anything out of the norm - handset manufacturers, as a matter of course, have to ask for the FCC’s blessing before selling their wares in The States. But, what caught our eye was the hardware description offered in the FCC documentation.

Toshiba TG01 to Cost 99 Euros?

Toshiba TG01 to Cost 99 Euros?

Word from France is that that Snapdragon-toting TG01 will cost 99 Euros from Orange, which works out to around $139 US. Not a bad deal for something with a 1 GHz processor, a 4.1″ WVGA screen, and measuring in at an anorexic 9.9mm thin. Whether or not that pricetag translates to other carriers is totally up in the air - service providers have the final call on how much they’re willing to subsidize, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them try to squeeze out something closer to the $200 mark for this calibre of hardware.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 ‘Vulcan’ specs in detail

The XPERIA X1 debuted Sony Ericsson’s Panel UI overlay that did a great job of hiding Windows Mobile’s, uh, shall we say “uninspired” UI. The XPERIA X1 also launched the Swedish-Japanese mobile phone maker’s ultra-high-end XPERIA smartphone brand. The X1 was packed to the gills with high-tech goodies, but the first-generation smartphone cold stand some improvement.
Enter the XPERIA X2.
The next-gen XPERIA is expected to rock a larger touchscreen display and sport a more capable processor and loads of RAM. Here’s what we’re told about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 (edited for clarity):
8.1-megapixel camera with auto focus, video recording in VGA resolution @ 30fps (MP4 HQ)
3.5-inch WVGA OLED (increased from 3.0-inches on the X1)
GPS, aGPS
3.5 mm headphone jack
Accelerometer
Faster processor
512MB RAM
Custom Windows Mobile 6.5 (SE engineers customized Win6.5 which runs very. very speedy. on par with iPhone and better in some cases)
XPERIA Panels are modified with plenty of innovative features (PS3 remote play being one of them)
Upgrading to Windows Mobile 7 is supported by Xperia panels
It’s not clear if the new XPERIA X2 will take advantage of the more finger-friendly Windows Mobile 6.5 user interface by using a capacitance-based touchscreen. The larger, 3.5-inch WVGA OLED display already sounds amazing on its own. If Sony Ericsson manages to fit their XPERIA X2 with a capacitance touchscreen to replace the X1’s resistive touchscreen, it may well prove to be the baddest touchscreen on the planet!

Sony Ericsson W302

Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) has/will be releasing its low-end W302 Walkman phone in a new color - Indigo Blue. We’re not sure in which markets users will be able to grab the newly colored version of the device, but we know that aside from the color change, the device remains identical, sporting the same 1.3 megapixel camera, music player, 176×220 pixels screen, Bluetooth, TrackID, and so on. Again, it would be helpful if the Swedish-Japanese company actually announces these phone updates more public by issuing a press release or something…

Nokia E71 - gray (unlocked)

Nokia E71 - gray (unlocked)
The good: The Nokia E71 features a slim design, while still managing to have a full QWERTY keyboard. The Symbian smartphone is stocked with features, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and U.S. 3G support. Voice, messaging, and productivity tools are also strong.
The bad: The E71 is expensive, and the display is on the smaller side. The keyboard is a bit cramped as well.
The bottom line: Mobile professionals who need a powerful but sleek messaging-centric smartphone will be well-served by the Nokia E71; just be prepared to pay a price.
