LG VIEWTY KU990
LG Viewty KU990 If you liked the LG Prada or are considering an iPhone, then the LG Viewty should definitely be top of your list of phones to check out first. Touchscreen phones are the hot product of 2007/2008 and LG have a proven track record in this area with the LG Prada. The Viewty is basically a souped-up Prada without the designer logo, and it's a very accomplished product. We loved the Prada's touchscreen user interface, and the Viewty retains the best features of the Prada, but with the addition of 3G, a 5 megapixel camera, an uprated video camera, more memory and longer battery life. For the benefit of those who haven't seen a Prada or iPhone, let's recap the touchscreen concept. Not to be confused with touch-sensitive buttons (e.g. the LG Chocolate or Samsung U600), the Viewty has a touch-sensitive screen. This means that icons and menus appear on the screen itself, and you touch the screen to activate the "buttons". The Viewty uses subtle vibration feedback to confirm when you've pressed a button, and you'll very quickly get used to the concept. There are real buttons below the screen for making and ending calls, a jog wheel, and also side buttons for controlling volume, the camera and the music player. We liked the touchscreen interface very much, and the technology now seems to be mature enough for touchscreens to enter the mainstream. If you're a fast texter you might find that the touchscreen slows you down a little, but the sheer pleasure of using the on-screen menus more than compensates for this. T9 predictive text is supported too. A stylus pen is provided if you find the interface too slow using your finger. The Viewty also supports handwriting recognition, so you should be able to find an input method that you're comfortable with.Apart from the user interface, the Viewty has several pleasures waiting to be discovered. The camera is LG's best yet, rated at 5 megapixels with a high quality Schneider-Kreuznach lens, autofocus and a SmartLight feature that makes after-dark photographs considerably clearer. You can also vary the ISO setting to ISO 800 for improved brightness in low light. In common with many digital cameras, the Viewty's camera incorporates an Image Stabiliser function for minimising camera shake. The Viewty can't match the best camera phones from Nokia or Sony Ericsson, but it definitely ranks in the top 10 of current camera phones. As well as a top notch still camera, the Viewty's video camera is also something special. It films at high resolution (320 x 240 pixels QVGA) and at very high frame rates - up to 120 frames per second, which enables special effects such as slow motion filming. There are built-in picture-editing and video-editing tools to make the most of these cameras. In addition, a second front-facing camera enables 3G video calls. The Viewty's music player is nice and easy to use and can handle virtually every music format: MP3/AAC/AAC+/AAC++/WMA. There's also an FM radio built in. Stereo headphones are supplied in the box, and you can use optional mono or stereo Bluetooth headphones if you prefer. The Viewty's memory is very generous, with 90 Mbytes of internal memory and up to 2 Gbytes of additional memory (microSD memory card).

It is true that, in many parts of the world, dialling '112' from a mobile phone will connect the caller to local emergency services. The number '112' is the international emergency telephone number for GSM mobilephone networksWhen dialling '112' on GSM mobile phones, access is provided regardless of the presence or validity of the SIM card within the phone, or whether the keypad is locked. The '112' number cannot be dialled from the fixed network.•'112' can be dialled anywhere in the world with GSM coverage and callers will be automatically translated to that country's particular emergency number.•A caller is able to connect to the emergency services answering point if GSM mobile coverage is available from any carrier's network at the location of the call. However, because '112' is primarily integrated with the GSM network, it may not work if the phone is connected to another type of network such as CDMA. The Australian Government webpage also notes: In Australia, it is a mandatory obligation for '112' to be built into GSM

sony-ericsson-yue-vs-k550
Sony Ericsson Frances – yet another Cyber-shot, but this one is a slider. It’s said to be “very pretty” and to come with GPS, active lens cover, PhotoFix, Face Detection and Smile Shutter. No word yet about how many Megapixels its camera will have.
Sony Ericsson Athena is from the Snapshot series, a mid-end candybar that might be released in Q1 2009 as the successor of S302.
Bottom line: Sony Ericsson might have some really nice Cyber-shot phones in 2009. But please, SE, make their displays as big as you can. The K550 vs. the Yue mock-up image should be enough for you to see that large screens can be fit into small phones if they’re designed wisely.

Apple iPhone Review
Apple iPhone
The iPhone has been out and about in the mobile market for over a year now, and already it’s had a bit of an upgrade both visually and internally to improve on an already stellar product by adding 3G networking capabilities. The result is the iPhone 3G, the second generation and another achingly cool Apple product that wants to take on all comers, whether its competition from the smartphone or music phone market.
The iPhone is even taking on the current generation of hand held gaming consoles. So have Apple bitten off more than they can chew, or is the iPhone 3G a benchmark mobile phone handset? Let’s look at some of the things that make the iPhone what it is.
Apple iPhone Technical Specifications
The most impressive aspect of the iPhone on first viewing is its exterior design and styling, as well as the large 3.5 inch screen which is entirely touch sensitive.
Apple products are always balancing form and function perfectly, and the iPhone is no exception, with the new 3G version becoming the latest in a long line of Apple branded fashion accessories. That’s not to say that the iPhone is just a trinket, far from it. Its touch screen is arguably the best in the business, with multi-touch capabilities allowing you to depress multiple virtual buttons on the screen at the same time and also enhancing the web browsing experience that we’ll talk about a bit later.Read more

Nokia N98 Review
However, is the Nokia N98 real or fake?
Nokia haven’t released any information on this phone and aren’t planning to either. A few rumours are flying around the internet but looking at the photo, it appears to be a very good photoshop image and looking at the spec, it just looks like the Nokia N96 plus a bit more.
We’re on the hunt for more information on the so-called Nokia N98, so check back soon to see how we get on.
In the meantime, have a look at our Nokia reviews for the Nokia N96 and Nokia N97, both of which are very real.

Nokia N97
The N97 comes with a tilting touch display, full QWERTY keyboard and personalized home screen, which in Nokia’s eyes, makes it the world’s most advanced mobile computer.
The N97 is very much a phone designed for the internet. It comes with a large 3.5 inch touch-screen display and a full QWERTY keyboard, and when combined with the always open window, provides excellent internet browsing functionality.
Social networking has become an integral part of so many people’s lives that Nokia have introduced a concept of social location with the N97. With integrated A-GPS sensors and an electronic compass, the Nokia N97 calculates it’s exact position and as such makes it easier to update social networks automatically with real-time information, giving approved friends the ability to update their ’status’ and share their ’social location’ as well as related pictures or videos. It’s like twitter on steroids.
The home screen of the Nokia N97 is designed to work like your computer’s desktop. It becomes a shortcut to those things that matter most, and the N97 being a social phone, this is intended to be friends, social networks and news - all at the touch of a button. The 16:9 widescreen display can be fully personalized with frequently updated widgets of favorite web services and social networking sites. The Nokia N97 is also perfectly suited for browsing the web, streaming Flash videos or playing games. Both the physical QWERTY and virtual touch input ensure efficiency in blogging, chatting, posting, sending texts or emailing.
The Nokia N97 supports up to 48 GB of storage, including 32 GB of on-board memory, expandable with a 16 GB microSD card for music, media and more. This is complemented by excellent music capabilities, full support for the Nokia Music Store and continuous playback time of up to 1.5 days - yes that did say days!
The Nokia N97 also has a 5 Megapixel Camera with the now to be expected Carl Zeiss lens and DVD quality video capture, and support for services like Share on Ovi for immediate sharing over HSDPA and WLAN.

Nokia N96 Smartphone
The main aim of the N96 is to cover as many multimedia areas as possible in an attempt to trump offerings from Apple and Blackberry, and in a sense they’ve achieved this by packing the phone with literally every gadget and gizmo available on modern handsets aimed at business users and media junkies.
But is the N96 a jack of all trades and a master of none?
Let’s take a look at some of the key selling points of this hefty phone.Read more
Blackberry Storm
Blackberry Storm
Blackberry has built up a reputation as a manufacturer of smartphones that really do try and do it all, so it is no surprise that the Storm has been so highly anticipated as it is Blackberry’s first foray into the touch screen mobile phone market which has been dominated by other manufacturers so far. The Storm really is being put out into quite a full, competitive market, but with Blackberry’s track record of making stylish and functional phones, will the Storm endure?
Blackberry Storm Technical Specifications
On paper the Storm is a mixed bag. It has 1GB of onboard memory and comes with a microSD slot for expansion up to 16GB, but unless you’re going to be using your Storm for storing loads of pictures, movies and music, which is outside the remit of the Storm’s corporate target audience, then the standard memory should more than suffice for storing messages, emails and documents.Read more

Blackberry Storm v Apple iPhone
January 2, 2009 by gadget · Leave a Comment
Since the summer of this year the iPhone 3G has been ruling the roost of do-it-all smart phones thanks to its intuitive touch screen system and its pop culture credibility, but the release of Blackberry’s fist touch screen handset into the market place in mid December has been designed to shake up the Apple supremacy a bit and try and make some converts from both the iPhone usership whilst simultaneously winning over sceptical fans of previous Blackberry handsets who might not be entirely comfortable with the new control interface and design elements of the Blackberry Storm.
It’s best to look at the Blackberry Storm and Apple iPhone in turn before we decide to opt for the overall winner, so let’s examine the Apple original first.Read more
